We Help You Get Started with Confidence

New to Yoga? You'll Fit Right In

It's natural to feel intimidated the first time you enter a Acworth yoga studio, even at Core Bodyworks. Remember everyone in the studio also had a “first class," including your instructor! One way to gain confidence is to practice at home and slowly incorporate yoga into your lifestyle. During class, one of our helpful instructors will provide adjustments or assists to help you better align your body, prevent injury, and better position your body in a specific posture. Consider positioning your mat near the middle of the room so you can see what the rest of the class is doing in addition to the instructor.

Why Yoga?

Yoga is a mind-body exercise that originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. While there are many styles of yoga, in general, every style includes postures (asanas), meditation, and breathing techniques (pranayama). With regular practice, yoga builds physical strength and flexibility while reducing stress and improving the mind-body connection.

Yoga health benefits include reduced blood pressure, increased focus, a deeper spiritual mind/body connection, more energy, and better sleep at night. Many elements of yogic philosophy, such as loving kindness, compassion and non-judgment, may also influence an individual lifestyle as they adopt healthier habits and make more positive, life-affirming choices.

Finding the Right Yoga for You

If you are new to yoga, you may be wondering what class to take. Hatha yoga is a gentle style with introductory poses that are accessible to individuals with all body types and athletic abilities. If you have never practiced yoga before, a hatha class is a good place to build a strong foundation before progressing to more athletic styles such as Vinyasa or Ashtanga. At Core Bodyworks, we are happy to work with all new students to find just the right beginner yoga class for you. We will never push you to enter a class that makes you uncomfortable or won't help you meet your goals.

Finding the right instructor is another important part of beginning yoga. Our Acworth teachers registered with Yoga Alliance have completed either 200 or 500 hours of training at an approved studio. You can practice with confidence knowing that our teachers are specifically trained to not only help you progress in your practice, but also to help prevent your body from being injured. While some instructors may lead classes using some Sanskrit, or use a chant, don't let these experiences scare you. Bring increased focus by linking your breath with your movement. The spiritual part of Yoga is entirely up to you!

With a variety of classes at our Acworth studio, you are sure to find a class and instructor at Core Bodyworks that can help you grow in your yoga mastery.

Yoga can be an intimidating practice for those who are new to the ancient form of exercise. There are hundreds of poses that require you to contort your body into positions that, outside of a yoga studio, you may never be tempted to try or expect to find yourself in. At Core Bodyworks in Acworth, we are sensitive to the anxiety that may surround new students and make every effort to help you become a confident yogi. Practicing yoga is a great way to develop a healthy lifestyle. All it takes to embark on your journey is sign up for a class at Core Bodyworks.

Yoga is also an incredibly inclusive practice. We modify the yoga poses we teach at Core Bodyworks to accommodate the needs of absolutely any individual, including those who are fit, those who are overweight and those who struggle with disabilities. Of course, before you can become proficient in yoga you have to learn how to get started.

Yoga for Beginners

You won't become a yogi after just one class.  Developing a yoga-centered lifestyle takes years, but that doesn't mean you can't benefit from yoga at an introductory level. Yoga for beginners can help you to manage stress and get in shape.

At any intensity level, yoga delivers certain benefits, including benefits to your mental and physical health. Yoga can help you tone muscle and lose weight while encouraging great stress management and meditation.

Don't let your first yoga class intimidate you. To get started at Core Bodyworks all you need is:

  • A yoga mat (we supply extras at each class).
  • Comfortable clothes that allow you to move and flex freely
  • Water to stay hydrated
  • A positive attitude
  • An open mind

When you take your first yoga class at Core Bodyworks in Acworth, you may not know all of the poses. There is no need to study before you see us for the first time in order to feel comfortable at the front of the class. If you're not ready to take center stage, just set up your mat in the middle or back of the room and keep an eye on others in the class. By watching fellow yogis, you can know what each of the poses are as you transition into them. Our helpful instructors will also assist you as needed.

Yoga is an inviting, meditational and even spiritual experience that can help you get in shape and tone muscle. Don't let yourself feel too intimidated by any preconceived notions about the practice. As a welcoming practice, you can rest assured that any class you find will be inviting and inclusive, helping you to feel as comfortable as possible.
